SUMMARY:Black\, Queer\, & Here
DESCRIPTION:Black\, Queer\, & Here is a support group specifically created to center the experiences of Black Queer folks who are over the age of 18. Our group session will take place biweekly on Mondays at 6:30 pm. Our aim is to provide a nurturing and empowering space where we can focus on community care\, connection\, collective liberation\, and mutual aid. \nWe understand that being part of the Black Queer community comes with unique challenges\, and it is important to have a supportive network that recognizes and affirms our experiences. We believe in the power of connection and the strength that comes from sharing our stories\, challenges\, and triumphs with one another. \n\n\nCommunity care is at the heart of our support group. We recognize that each member brings unique strengths\, knowledge\, and resources to the table. By coming together\, we can create a supportive network that offers assistance\, guidance\, and empowerment to one another. Whether it’s emotional support\, resources\, or advocacy\, we believe in mutual aid as a means of uplifting the entire community. \nOur group is committed to promoting collective liberation. We acknowledge that our experiences are influenced by systemic oppression\, and we encourage members to actively engage in conversations about systemic issues\, seeking ways to challenge oppressive structures. Through the embrace of mutual aid principles\, we hope to cultivate an environment where we can uplift and support each other. \nOur group sessions are facilitated by Black Community Health professionals who are well-versed in the experiences and challenges faced by Black Queer folks. They provide a non-judgmental\, inclusive space where everyone’s voice is valued and heard.

SUMMARY:SAGA General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:SAGA meetings are the main focus of the organization\, and as such we highly encourage all SAGA members to attend. Due to the amount of people that attend the meetings\, we ask that you try to arrive before 6:30pm to allow us to begin the meeting on time. Meetings begin with announcements from the Board of Directors and then go immediately into introductions. This is followed by an open discussion on topics suggested by members\, relating to the Trans or Queer experience. Occasionally\, an invited speaker gives a presentation. Social time takes place during the last hour so our members can get to know each other. Our meetings are informal\, and we encourage visitors to come as they feel comfortable. \nWe employ a hybrid meeting style\, incorporating both in-person and zoom attendance. For virtual meeting links/information please see the Discord server or sign up for our newsletter. \nRules & Guidelines:\nConsent \nAsk for consent. Have an active dialogue with people about their comfort level. Consent is an ongoing discussion: never assume! We are an “Only ‘Yes’ Means Yes” group. Victim-blaming is not tolerated. \nUse Content Warnings to the best of your ability. If you think that what you are about to share could be potentially distressing or induce dysphoria in someone\, be sure to tell the group what subject you’re about to talk about so that members can choose how they want to participate\, if at all. \nRespect people’s boundaries and privacy. (This includes preferred names and pronouns! Not everyone is comfortable sharing everything about their transitions or lives\, and it is important we understand that.) \nContent\nKeep it PG-13. As a community that revolves around sexual and gender identity\, our discussions will tend to be more frank surrounding the human body than the general population. That being said\, this support group is not intended for explicit content for it to remain a Safe Space. \nThis is a body and sex positive group! Zero shaming tolerated. \nUnless it is specifically related to our community\, keep political discussion to a minimum. \nConduct\nKeep things confidential. Not everyone in this support group is out\, and we want to respect when people are being vulnerable. Do not share anything that other members say during the support portion of these meetings. \nDo not interrupt or speak over members. Please extend the same courtesy that you want in return when it comes to speaking during the meetings. If there is repetitive violation of this policy\, you may be asked to leave. \nAssume best intentions. Not everybody has the lingo or nuance down yet\, and that’s okay! Sometimes we make mistakes and tread on each other’s toes\, but we can have that discourse with compassion. If there is a problem that you can’t resolve on your own\, please reach out to an officer.
