DESCRIPTION:Important Event Information:\nUIW Skyroom Address: 847 E Hildebrand Ave\, San Antonio\, TX 78212 Doors Open at 11:30am: Check in\, grab a drink\, and check out our silent auction beginning at 11:30am. Program will begin at noon. The ballroom is on the 6th floor and you’ll check-in at a table on the 6th floor. Parking: Parking is free in the UIW garage directly below the Skyroom. Take the elevator to the 6th floor inside the garage.  Auction: The Brunch is a fundraiser for The Center’s health and wellness programming. We put together a silent auction that caters to pocketbooks of all sizes. It is strictly an online auction through the 32Auctions platform. Bidding will end at 2:30 pm and you’ll be notified on your phone if you win upon the auction’s completion. You can collect your item once the event concludes.  Register yourself on 32Auctions now to avoid the hassle the day of. (Link will be provided closer to the event) Attire: We encourage all attendees to dress authentically to their style. While we don’t enforce a particular dress code\, you’ll find most people dressed up. Think your Sunday’s best but don’t be shy to queer-it-up! \nOn Sunday\, June 11th\, 2023\, our annual Icon’s Brunch tradition comes back to life with live entertainment\, delicious food\, special guests\, bottomless drinks and more. The brunch is the largest and most exciting annual event supporting San Antonio’s LGBTQ+ community resource center. Gifts provided are invested in our Center’s programming which is provided at no cost to our clients. \nThe Center’s Icon’s Brunch is an event for everyone. We pride ourselves in providing an inclusive event and have moved to the spacious Rosenberg UIW Skyroom. DESCRIPTION:The Gay Liberations Extravaganza Forum is a safe\, fun\, informative\, healing and welcoming space for everyone in the community. This event comes around every 3 months and it is to help and guide the community through the in and outs of self luv. Research has shown that societal stigma and stereotypes can have negative impact on self-esteem\, mental and physical health\, education attainment and job performance within our (LGBTQ+) community. The aim of this forum is to educate participants in the community on how to obtain the love that we all need and deserve. That love\, that we all need is the love of our own selves.  This forum will empower you and give you the tools and resources needed to effectively address stigmas\, self luv\, coming out\, self-esteem and so much more. In addition\, we will open the space for dialogue and answer any questions that there may be. This months topic is “Forming a Relationship with yourself”. The event is catered to the LGBTQ+ community. But is welcoming to any ally\, who wants to learn more about the LGBTQ+ community and our experiences\, feelings and perspectives.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for “Guatemala in Free Fall”\, a conversation with Guatemalan human rights activist Luis Gutierrez and Jennifer Harbury\, American lawyer\, author\, and human rights activist\, on Saturday\, July 8\, 2023\, at 6 PM. \nThey will be talking about the historical and current political climate of Guatemala. Following a seminar-like discussion\, Jennifer Harbury and Luis Gutierrez will share their stories\, insights\, and experiences of working for human rights and justice in Guatemala\, as well as the impact that US policy and actions have on the lives of communities outside of this country. \nA Q&A session will follow the conversation.\nDoors open at 5:30 PM. \nJennifer K. Harbury is an activist\, author\, and attorney who has spent much of the past twenty years working to monitor and promote human rights in Guatemala. Her husband\, Efrain Bamaca Velasquez\, was a Mayan resistance leader who “disappeared” due to the Guatemalan military in 1992; subjected to long-term\, severe torture; then extrajudicially executed. Harbury’s efforts to save his life\, which included three dangerous hunger strikes\, resulted in startling disclosures about the close working relationship between the CIA and the Central American death squads. Since learning of her husband’s death\, she has devoted much of her time to press for human rights reforms for both the United States and Guatemalan governments. \nLuis Eduardo Gutierrez Marckwordt is a life- long Guatemalan human rights activist. His parents were both very involved in the reform efforts of President Jacobo Arbenz during the “Ten Years of Spring” (1944-1954). Luis grew up in the shadow of the 1954 CIA-sponsored coup and its violent aftermath. His father was imprisoned\, then assassinated; and many close family friends\, including the gifted poet Otto Rene Castillo\, were tortured and killed. Luis followed swiftly in their footsteps\, becoming an activist at an early age. He continues to this day to struggle for fundamental human rights and an end to official impunity for war crimes.

SUMMARY:Nature of Art Camp
DESCRIPTION:Nature of Art is a camp like no other! \n\n Nature of Art is a weeklong program offered in partnership with the UTSA School of Art. This art and science-based nature camp is held at Confluence Park where students can learn about nature and science through creative based practices led by local artists and educators. \n  \nEach day\, students will learn about a different theme tied into the ecosystem of the river\, park\, and the communities we live in. Much of the day will be spent making artwork that reflects our interest in the natural world. We will use clay\, fabric\, and paint\, work together and individually; learn to look and pay attention to things we may have overlooked before. Students should expect to spend time by the river\, climbing\, jumping\, and walking outside. \nEach day will have a full schedule with several art projects\, writing or storytelling time\, lunch\, a time to play\, and a discussion. On some days we will have an environmental or scientific ambassador come and share their knowledge with us. Our emphasis is on creating art and building art skills\, stewarding our San Antonio River\, creating a supportive and kind community\, and expressing ourselves while learning by observation and imagination. \n  \nPROGRAM INFORMATION: \nTuition is $125 per student for the week. Transportation is not provided to or from the program. Participants will need to bring their own lunch and water bottle. Snacks will be provided. Aftercare is provided free of charge from 4:15 – 5:30PM. \n  \nPROGRAM DATES: \nWeek 1: Monday\, July 10 – Friday\, July 14 (ages 7 – 9) \nWeek 2: Monday\, July 17 – Friday\, July 21 (ages 7 – 9) \nWeek 3: Monday\, July 24 – Friday\, July 28 (ages 10 – 13) \nWeek 4: Monday\, July 31 – Friday\, August 4 (ages 10 – 13) \n  \nStudents may only register for one section.
