Milestone Reached – First Ever Staff Member Hired

January 29, 2019

Today is a significant milestone for The Center as we transition from an all-volunteer organization to hiring our first ever paid staff member. We are excited to enter 2019, in a strong position to further our progress in the long-term effort to empower San Antonio’s LGBTQ+ community.

The Center has named Lex Loro (she/her/they/them) Community Empowerment Coordinator for The Center. Lex has over 6 years experience of supporting LGBTQ and disabled youth through sexual health education, social justice advocacy, and training facilitation. In addition to their proven track record in creating positive change, they also gained experience in public policy and government affairs as a fellow at the National LGBTQ Task Force where they worked to disseminate findings of the National Transgender Discrimination Survey.

“I’m thrilled to join The Center in its efforts to ensure that every LGBTQ+ person, and their families, friends, and allies, in San Antonio, and beyond feel safe, supported, healthy, and empowered,” said Lex Loro, Community Empowerment Coordinator for The Center – Pride Center San Antonio.

In addition to Loro, The Center welcomes 4 new members to the board of directors. The new members are Yadira Gonzales, Marketing Consultant; Lisa Martinez, The Millenium Group; Vanessa Powers, Marriott International; and Jamie Zapata, Coldwell Banker Realtors. Their wealth of knowledge and personal experiences make them a great addition to our thriving team of dedicated and passionate board members.

Our staff, interns, board of directors, and volunteers are energized and committed to providing the safe space our community needs and deserves.
