7 year anniversary of San Antonio’s NDO

September 5, 2020

Today, September 5, 2020, marks the seven-year anniversary of the passage of San Antonio’s revised Non-Discrimination Ordinance (NDO) to include sexual orientation, gender identity and veteran status.

It was a long and grueling process. Leading up to the city council vote there were many long nights at City Hall chambers for Citizens to be Heard sessions, sometimes lasting until 2 and 3am. Press conferences in the heat of the day and many hours meeting and organizing behind closed doors. However San Antonio’s LGBTQ+ community prevailed.

We look forward and welcome to the strengthening and expanding of the NDO to include full employment protections as well as enforcement. Thank you to the CAUSA leadership and members, activists, organizers and our allies, and all of whom we had the privilege of being in solidarity with during that time.
