Launch LGBTQ Youth Mentoring Program
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – Historically, studies show that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) youth are extremely isolated from traditional social spaces. Where else can these young people turn besides their family, school or faith communities? Mentoring programs provide a safe space and a brave space for young people to share their experiences, feelings and achievements without fear of rejection or judgment.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas in partnership with Pride Center San Antonio proudly announce the launch of a brand new, first of its kind in the nation, site-based mentoring group for LGBTQ youth. The unique program will assist some of the most vulnerable and at-risk youth by partnering them with LGBTQ affirming role models. Program mentors will be comprised of people who lead and live successful and “Out” and “Proud” LGBTQ lives within our communities.
The program is currently recruiting LGBTQ mentors to meet once a month with a LGBTQ student. Prospects interested in participating must attend a single 1-hour orientation that outlines the goals and guidelines of the partnership program. An application, background check and references will be required to be completed by each individual mentor.
