It is with great sadness that we share that our good friend, Ron Casola, founding artistic director of Live Oak Singers has passed away. Ron moved to San Antonio in 2013 and quickly became a friend to many LGBTQ+ serving organizations, including The Center – Pride Center San Antonio. Ron was full of life and heart, always bringing a smile to other’s faces. Star, Ron’s service dog, was almost always by his side offering that same kindred spirit.
In more recent years, Ron was an outspoken advocate for dementia and Alzheimer’s, using his personal experiences as a conversation starter to educate and break the stigma often associated with the disease. With Ron’s help, through his involvement with the Alzheimer’s Association, The Center is in the planning stages of forming support systems, in partnership with the association, for San Antonio’s older adult community. We look forward to continuing Ron’s legacy through these programs.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends. Many will miss Ron but we are certain he is singing over all of us today and forever.
Memorial services are currently being planned. Once we have details, we will make them available to the community.
