Yesterday the Texas Diversity Council convened the Greater San Antonio LGBT-Allies Summit. This inaugural event was held at the San Antonio Area Foundation, featuring keynote speaker, Jeffrey Arndt, President and CEO, VIA Metropolitan Transit. Attendees engaged in a robust conversation centered on best practices for driving LGBT initiatives in the workplace led by panelists Kiran Bains, Diversity & Inclusion Officer, City of San Antonio; Luis Vasquez, President, San Antonio LGBT Chamber of Commerce; and Robert Salcido, Field Coordinator, Equality Texas.
At this inaugural event, Texas Diversity Council presented the first ever award to Pride Center San Antonio for exemplifying their core values of leadership that values diversity and inclusion to promote trust, mutual respect, and understanding as well as teamwork and alliances that cultivate diversity and inclusive work environments. The award recognized The Center for their work in educating the broader community in an effort to build allies and advocates of equal treatment. Accepting the award was Robert Salcido, executive director and board chair; Naomi Brown, founding member and vice chair; and Lauryn Farris, board member of The Center – Pride Center San Antonio.
