The Center – Pride Center San Antonio the local lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community resource center, has learned of the death of Helle Jae O’Regan, a 20-year old transgender woman in San Antonio. Our heartfelt condolences are extended to Helle’s family, friends, and loved ones. 

 

According to our conversations with the San Antonio Police Department, Helle was shot and killed inside a barbershop where she was employed on Wednesday, May 6, 2020. At least one other employee sustained non-life threatening injuries in the attack. The investigation is still open and authorities do not believe her gender identity played a factor in her death. 

 

“We are disheartened to hear of a loss of a community member, especially a transgender woman, who are all too often faced with severe and deadly violence,” said Robert Salcido, Jr. Executive Director at The Center – Pride Center San Antonio.
