Between November 12 and 19, individuals and organizations around the country will participate in Transgender Awareness Week to help raise the visibility of transgender and gender non-conforming people, and address the issues the community faces. Trans people are our neighbors, co-workers, people we worship with, call our friends, and are leaders in our community. 

The Center honors all transgender, gender expansive, and gender nonconforming folks throughout the world, especially those in San Antonio, the place we call home. We are fortunate to have the talents of Erick LaRue Macias, Luka Rios, Ashley Smith, and Jamie Zapata part of our team with The Center and our resiliency project, Strengthening Colors of Pride (@colorsofpridesa). Today, as we close out Trans Awareness Week, we thank them for their leadership and commitment to The Center and our community. 

Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 20, join us for Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR), an annual observance that honors the memory of those whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. We will begin at 6:30 PM at Travis Park to read their names, and remind the world that they lived, and were unjustly killed due to hate, transphobia, and society’s strict adherence to the gender binary. Service will immediately follow across the street at Travis Park United Methodist Church where we will remember those we have lost, in the hopes that their memory will create a safer future and effect change in this horrifying trend.
