Vigil to Honor Lives of Orlando Shooting Victims
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – On Thursday, June 16, Mayor Ivy Taylor will join members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ) and ally community, for a candlelight vigil at Crockett Park to honor the lives of our forty-nine brothers and sisters fatally shot in Orlando, Florida.
In an effort to build bridges and have a broader discussion about violence against people of color and other marginalized communities, the Muslim Children Education and Civic Center, Temple Beth-El, along with other interfaith leaders and social justice organizations will gather in solidarity. Local LGBTQ authors and poets will recite words of compassion, inclusion, and unity.
Community members are encouraged to attend to show support and compassion for the victims, their families, and all those affected by this senseless act of violence. Grief counselors will be available onsite.
Attendees should prepare for warm weather; limited supply of water will be available. Lawn chairs encouraged for those who do not wish to stand for long periods of a time.
